Claiming private health fund rebates for your remedial massage or myotherapy treatment with Melbourne Natural Therapies is super easy. We’ve created this simple guide for you to follow.
Understand Your Policy | Private Health Fund Rebates
Firstly, do you have extras cover? Secondly, what extras do you have?
Do you have remedial massage as an extra? Or myotherapy? Or both?
Check your policy details as they will be able to tell you what modalities you can claim rebates for, the approximate rebate amount and how much money you can be rebated each year.
Book For A Suitable Treatment
To get a rebate for your massage treatment at our clinics in Melbourne, Southbank or Brunswick, you will need to book for either remedial massage or myotherapy, depending on what modality you have covered in your policy. It is up to you to book the right appointment.
N.B. the main difference between remedial massage and myotherapy is that myotherapy will include dry needling.
We offer a variety of massage options but only certain ones are able to receive a health fund rebate. Please visit our fees page to see which treatments have health fund rebates available and which don’t.
Bring Your Private Health Card To Your Appointment
You can also have your card on your phone if your health fund provider has an app.
Claim On The Spot For Your Remedial Massage Or Myotherapy Treatment Using HICAPS
Your insurer will pay the rebate straight away and you will only need to pay the gap. You can pay the gap by credit card, eftpos or cash at any of our clinics.
If you forget your card, you can pay for the treatment in full and claim your rebate from your insurer by sending them a copy of the tax invoice.
Don’t Forget To Rebook!
Getting a rebate for your massage treatment will mean that it’s a bit more affordable for you to keep yourself feeling good with a regular massage treatment. Lots of people forget to claim their rebates, or don’t use up all of their benefits over the year.
Do More Research | Private Health Fund Rebates
Your needs will change as you get older and we regularly see clients who haven’t updated their policy in years and aren’t always on the most appropriate level of cover.
Research if you are on the best type of extras cover for your current needs – if you come regularly, a policy that gives you a set amount back each visit might be more appropriate. If you only come sporadically, a policy that gives you a big percentage back each visit might be more suitable so you don’t end up with unused amounts at the end of a year.
FAQs
Are all of your therapists registered to give health fund rebates?
Yes, we only recruit qualified therapists who are registered with all major health funds.
How do I find out what extras cover I have in my private health insurance policy?
Contact your insurer to see what your policy covers. Each company has many different policies so we are unable to give you guidance.
Can I get a quote to see what rebate I will get?
We are able to give you a quote but you do need to be present for this and we can’t quote you over the phone. We are not always available to run a quote for you as we are therapist run clinics and do not have receptionists. It may be easier for you to refer to your health fund to find out what rebate you can receive.
I don’t have my private health fund card with me – how do I claim for my treatment?
Don’t worry! If you forget your card you can pay the full amount at the end of the session by credit card, EFTPOS or cash and we can give you a receipt for your treatment which you can pass on to your insurer. Most insurance companies make it very easy for you to make a claim by simply uploading the receipt to their website or via their app. If your insurer pays a rebate, any amount will be paid directly into the bank account you have registered with them.
Our receipts have all the necessary information on them but if your insurer requires something specific, don’t hesitate to let us know so that we can simply add any details required and issue you another copy.
I was not able to claim for my massage treatment on HICAPS – what can I do?
There are a few instances when your health fund does not rebate your massage treatment. Sometimes you have reached your limit, or you do not have remedial massage or myotherapy as part of your cover. In these instances, the HICAPS terminal usually gives you the error codes – “Benefit limit exceeded”, ”Item not recognised” or “Membership unfinancial”.
Most of the time, if you did not receive a rebate when you were expecting to, you will need to refer to your fund directly. The only instance when we have to contact your health fund is in the event the HICAPS terminal gives the error code “Provider not recognised”. We will need to contact the insurer to find out why we are not recognised, ask them to update their records and then contact you with an update and/or issue a new receipt. The process is fairly simple and doesn’t take very long so please be considerate, often it is a clerical error on the part of the insurer and which we have no control over!
I’ve run out of extras cover this year, can I use my partner’s health insurance, or another family member’s insurance?
No, you may not claim for your own treatments under someone else’s name or policy – this is insurance fraud!
