Lower Leg Pain

melbourne remedial massageAt Melbourne Natural Therapies, we provide effective remedial massage treatment for conditions concerning lower leg pain and feet, at both our Southbank and Collins Street, Melbourne CBD clinic locations. Some of the common lower leg pain we address include:

  •       Plantar Fasciitis
  •       Achilles tendonitis
  •       Calf tendonitis

Pain and discomfort within the gastrocnemius and soleus (calf muscles), Achilles tendon (attached to the calf and heel bone) and plantar fascia (soles of the feet) occurs due to a range of factors, including physical activity levels (wear and tear of tissues), age (thinning and tightening of tissues) and injury, due to over-use, or accidents. Many of our remedial massage and myotherapy clients in Melbourne experience pain and discomfort in the calves and Achilles tendon due to pre- and post-training activities, competitive sports, and injury.

Tension or shortening of both the calves and achilles tendon, are often associated with plantar fasciitis, or the inflammation of tissue along the sole of the foot. Commonly experienced symptoms of Plantar Fasciitis we treat include pain and discomfort of the heel, the arches of the feet, or both. Although in general more commonly occurring in clients over the age of 50 due to the reduction of shock absorbing tissues of the feet, symptoms of Plantar Fasciitis can occur in all ages.

Many clients experience pain and discomfort within the lower legs and feet associated with dysfunction of the lower back and hip muscles. This is due to the subsequent compensation of muscles and ligaments, to accommodate the biomechanical changes required for activities such as walking. The result is often pain experienced throughout the muscles of the lower back, buttocks, hips, hamstrings, calves and feet. Remedial massage is demonstrated to be highly beneficial in both the treatment and prevention of shortened muscles, ligaments and fibres associated with lower leg and foot conditions. It is also one of the least invasive treatment measures available.

One of the key benefits of massage is increased blood circulation, which assists the body to reduce inflammation more effectively, increase muscle flexibility, remove waste products and transport vital nutrients to the musculature. Adequate blood circulation is also vital in the healing of damaged tissue, and the reduction of muscular pain levels.
