Julie Wise

Myotherapy | Remedial Massage

Julie is an experienced myotherapist and Pilates instructor with more than 25 years’ experience working with the human body, movement, rehabilitation and wellbeing. Her career has taken her from private practice and multidisciplinary clinics to teaching the next generation of myotherapists, running her own studio and continuing to explore new approaches to health and movement.

Julie completed her Advanced Diploma of Applied Science (Myotherapy) at the Victorian College of Healthcare Education in 2000 and began her clinical career establishing Eastern Myotherapy in Ringwood. She went on to work in multidisciplinary environments including Beacon Cove Physiotherapy and CorPilates, as well as The Perth Pilates Studio, where she developed her rehabilitation-based Pilates practice and completed her Polestar Pilates Rehabilitation qualification.

Education has always been an important part of Julie’s career. From 2002–2008 she lectured at the Victorian College of Healthcare Education, teaching advanced Myotherapy, treatment modalities and dry needling, supervising student clinics and mentoring third-year students. She particularly enjoyed the combination of clinical practice and helping students develop the confidence and reasoning skills needed to become good practitioners.

Today, Julie enjoys treating a broad range of musculoskeletal concerns, including neck and shoulder tension, headaches, postural and desk-related discomfort, back pain, hip and gluteal issues, muscular aches and stiffness, movement restrictions, exercise-related overload and injury rehabilitation. She has a particular interest in women’s health, helping women maintain strength, mobility and confidence as their bodies and lives change.

Her treatment approach can incorporate myotherapy, remedial massage, myofascial techniques, trigger point therapy, dry needling, cupping, functional taping, therapeutic ultrasound and Pilates-based movement and rehabilitation, depending on the individual and their treatment goals. Julie is also continuing to develop her skills in cosmetic dry needling, low level laser therapy and women’s wellbeing.

One of the things Julie loves most about myotherapy is that no two people — or two bodies — are quite the same. She enjoys listening carefully, working out what might be contributing to a problem and finding practical ways to help people feel better, move more freely and get back to the things they enjoy.

Julie genuinely believes in continuing to challenge your own body too. After COVID, in her early 40s, she discovered calisthenics, beginning a completely new physical challenge at an age when many people start to think they should be slowing down. She is now in her fifth year of the sport, following a break last year, and has found it to be one of the most rewarding combinations of strength, movement, discipline, teamwork and fun. In 2026, her team has already won three competitions, including the Victorian State Championships.

Outside of work and calisthenics, Julie has a daughter Kya, who has a passion for filmmaking, and her husband Darren, is a boxing and kickboxing personal trainer. They share a love of movement, travel and discovering new places, and have a particular affection for Japan — its food, culture, history, design, photography and philosophy. Japan has become a recurring part of their travels and an ongoing source of inspiration for Julie.

Julie also loves photography, exploring beautiful places, good food, wine and cheese, and of course spending time with their much-loved French bulldog, Honey. She describes herself as a lifelong learner and is always curious about the human body, wellness, mental health and the many different ways people can live well.

After more than two decades in the industry, Julie still gets enormous satisfaction from helping someone walk into a treatment room feeling restricted, uncomfortable or frustrated with their body — and walk out feeling that little bit more like themselves again.

Her philosophy is simple: feel better, move better and keep doing the things that make you feel alive.
